PISTON announces two-day transport strike

by Kiko Cueto

THE Transport group Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON) and its allies announced that they will be holding another two-day nationwide transport strike later this week.

The group said that it will be held on Thursday, December 14, and Friday, December 15.

They said that they will be joined by their members in Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog.

PISTON said that they are still protesting the December 31 deadline for PUV consolidation.

The group claimed that it will only result in the disenfranchisement of many jeepney operators and drivers.

Earlier, the government had given jeepney operators until December 31 this year to enlist for modernized public utility vehicles as part of a modernization program.

The militant labor group Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) also said that they will be joining the strike.
