by Carl Santos

THE Philippines has risen in the rankings in this year’s list of the most powerful passports in the world.

From 78th in 2023, the Philippine passport rose five places to 73rd, with visa-free access to 69 countries and territories, according to the Henley Passport Index.

Uganda and the Cape Verde Islands shared 73rd place with the Philippines.

‘’The index is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) – the largest, most accurate travel information database – and enhanced by Henley & Partners’ research team,’’ it said.

Six countries shared the top position, with their people being able to enter 194 countries and territories without a visa. These are France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore, and Spain.

With only 28 countries and territories offering visa-free entry, Afghanistan is at the bottom of the list (104th).
