Paolo develops into a tropical storm; slightly intensifies over PH Sea

STATE weather bureau PAGASA said that Paolo developed into a tropical storm and slightly intensified over the Philippine Sea, according to its 11 a.m. bulletin on Thursday, October 2.

At 10 a.m., Tropical Storm Paolo was located 575 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon, with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (km/h) near the center, and gustiness of up to 90 km/h.

It currently moves west northwestward at a speed of 20 km/h.

PAGASA has now raised tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) no. 2 in the following areas:

  • Southeastern portion of Isabela ( San Mariano, Dinapigue, San Guillermo, Echague, Jones, San Agustin, Benito Soliven, Angadanan, City of Cauayan, Naguilian)
  • Northern portion of Quirino (Maddela)
  • Northern portion of Aurora ( Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan)

Meanwhile, TCWS no. 1 is up over these areas:

  • Mainland Cagayan
  • Isabela
  • Quirino
  • Nueva Vizcaya
  • Apayao
  • Abra
  • Kalinga
  • Mountain Province
  • Ifugao
  • Benguet
  • Ilocos Norte
  • Ilocos Sur
  • La Union
  • Pangasinan
  • Northern portion of Zambales (Palauig, Masinloc, Candelaria, Santa Cruz)
  • Tarlac
  • Nueva Ecija
  • Aurora
  • Northern portion of Bulacan (Doña Remedios Trinidad, San Miguel, San Ildefonso)
  • Northern portion of Pampanga (Magalang, Arayat, Candaba, Mabalacat City)
  • Northern portion of Quezon (General Nakar), including Polillo Islands
  • Northern portion of Catanduanes (Pandan, Bagamanoc, Panganiban, Viga)

Tropical Storm Paolo is expected to generally move west northwestward and make landfall over southern Isabela or northern Aurora on Friday morning, October 3.

PAGASA said it will continue to intensify over the Philippine Sea and may develop into a severe tropical storm on Thursday night.

The weather bureau added that the highest wind signal that will likely be hoisted as Paolo traverses the country is Signal No. 3, although there is a possibility that it will be raised to Signal No. 4 if Paolo intensifies into a typhoon.
