Palace suspends gov’t work, classes in Metro Manila amid heavy rains

by Carl Santos

Malacañang suspended government work and classes at all levels in Metro Manila at 3 p.m. Thursday due to heavy rains brought by the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

However, agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic health services, preparedness and response to disasters, and the performance of other vital services will continue with their operations, the Palace said in Memorandum Circular 29 issued by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

The Palace left the suspension of work in the private companies and offices to the discretion of their respective heads.

At 2 p.m., PAGASA issued a heavy rainfall (yellow) warning for Metro Manila, Zambales, and Bataan and warned of flooding in flood-prone areas.

”Meanwhile, light to moderate with occasional heavy rains affecting Tarlac, Pampanga, and Bulacan may persist within three hours. Expect light to moderate rains over Nueva Ecija, Cavite, and Rizal within the next three hours,” the state weather bureau said.

The heavy downpour has already caused flooding on several roads in Metro Manila.
