STATE weather bureau PAGASA expects two or four tropical cyclones to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility before the year ends.
The country has so far recorded 10 tropical cyclones in 2023.
”By end of December, mga around two to four pa iyong inaasahan natin na posible pong papasok or madi-develop inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility,” PAGASA assistant weather services chief Ana Liza Solis said in an interview on state-run PTV’s Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon on Thursday.
Solis said the country is now moving towards the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) season, which is associated with cool weather.
”Itong Northeast Monsoon is just around the corner. So makikita po natin in the next couple of days na posible na pong mai-pronounce ng PAGASA officially ang pagdating ng Northeast Monsoon or Amihan,” she said.
Solis said that there will still be rain during the Amihan season, just not as much due to the ongoing El Niño.
“May mga ilang bahagi pa rin ng ating bansa na makakaranas ng medyo maraming ulan pa rin despite iyong mga ibang areas ay possible po or potential doon sa tinatawag na dry spell at drought,” she said.
