THE National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said that the reported deaths due to the magnitude 6.8 Mindanao earthquake is now at 9.
The said quake that was estimated to have struck off Sarangani mid-afternoon on Friday resulted in the shopping mall ceiling to collapse, power outages, as it sent people feeling to the streets.
Among the reported fatalities include a mother and her 7-year-old child in Glan, Sarangani.
Another person was killed by a falling steel structure in the same town.
Meanwhile, in General Santos City, a woman was reportedly crushed to death by falling debris from a mall.
Reports also said that a couple died after they were pinned under a collapsing concrete wall.
Another reportedly had an elderly man being killed by a large rock that rolled down a hill near his house in neighboring Davao Occidental province.
The NDRRMC, on the other hand said that the quake reports had 15 injured and has affected 12,900 people.
Meanwhile, some 800 houses and 118 schools, government facilities, and private buildings were damaged.
Government had distributed some P11.6 million in assistance, according to the NDRMMC report.
