MRT, LRT 50% fare discount is now applied for PWDs and seniors

by Deanna Macaranas

A 50% fare discount is now granted not only for students but also to persons with disabilities and senior citizens.

On Wednesday, July 16, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. held the launch at the MRT-3 Santolan-Annapolis southbound station, where Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and MRT-3 General Manager Michael Capati welcomed him.

The launch was the declaration of the said 50% discount for senior citizens and PWDs in LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3.

“Noong nakaraan nakapagbigay tayo ng diskwento sa ating mga students basta’t magpakita ng student ID ay makakapag—makakapagkuha sila ng 50 percent na discount,” Marcos stated in his remarks during the launch.

“Ngayon naman ay idadagdag natin sa grupong ‘yun na mabibigyan ng 50 percent discount ang mga senior citizens at ang mga PWD,” he added.

Marcos stated that the said program will benefit 13 million senior citizens as well as seven million PWDs in the country.

The discount can be availed of every day, according to Transportation Secretary Dizon.

Last June, Marcos implemented a 50% student discount that benefits millions of students.

These programs are under the Expanded Senior Citizens Act, Student Fare Discount Act, and Magna Carta for Persons with Disability, senior citizens, students, and persons with disabilities.

These fare discounts are in fulfillment of easing the financial burden on commuters.
