AMID the continued woes of the residents and local government units affected by the recent flooding brought about by Super Typhoon Carina that enhanced Southwest Monsoon, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority decided to cancel the Metro Manila Shake Drill on July 31.
According to the MMDA this is due to the ongoing clean up operations.
“Hindi po matutuloy ang Metro Manila Shake Drill na nakatakda bukas, Hulyo 31, dahil sa patuloy na isinasagawang paglilinis at pagsasaayos ng mga pinsalang tinamo sa iba’t ibang bahagi ng Metro Manila dulot ng habagat at bagyong Carina noong nakaraang linggo,” the MMDA said.
It will be recalled that the Metro Manila Council placed the National Capital Region under a state of calamity due to the massive effects of the super typhoon.
No less than the National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) had reported that some 3.6 million individuals were affected by the combined impact of the Habagat, Tropical Cyclone Butchoy, and Super Typhoon Carina.
The NDRRMC also said that more than 2 million people came from Central Luzon.
Majority of the damage and losses impacted the country’s agricultural sector due to the heavy rains and flooding as it was tallied at P1.17 billion.
