IT seems like even bed bugs or “surot” in the Filipino translation, also wants to participate in the revenge travel as authorities from the Manila International Airport Authority said the bugs are “imported.”
Mike Buno, NAIA Terminal 3 operations supervisor pest control said that they are now on the second day of cleaning of the seats.
“Contact chemical naman po siya so once na tinamaan talagang direct patay po kaagad siya,” he said.
“Nakita po natin na hindi nag-originate sa Pilipinas. Mas malaki po ang surot na nakikita,” he added.
The disinfection is still ongoing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airports.
It will be recalled that passengers complained about the bed bugs and posted it on social media. It went viral prompting airport authorities to take action.
On Thursday, MIAA conducted a disinfection on the said seats and removed them.
The cleaning will take place for three days.
Today, the seats will undergo through checking and if there are still traces of “surot” it will again undergo disinfection.
If none are found, they will be subjected to a pressure washer machine.
On the third day, the seats will be exposed under the sunlight.
MIAA General Manager Eric Jose Ines vowed to solve the problem “bugging” their seats.
“We have to do our jobs. All seats need to be fixed,” he said.
He added that they will conduct defogging operations and rotational disinfections of the seats.
There are 2,028 gang chairs at the NAIA Terminal 3, composed of 4 seats per gang chair.
MIAA meanwhile apologized over the bed bug incident.
“We apologize to the passengers. We are doing our best,” Ines said.
The problem with bed bugs is not limited to the Philippines.
In France, the incident is bugging the residents as well as they are airing out their mattresses due to bed bugs.
