Marikina LGU suspends terminal operation after explosion

by Kiko Cueto

THE Marikina City Local Government suspended the operations of the BFCT Terminal in Barangay Calumpang which killed two people and injured five others, after a truck, reportedly secretly  transporting fireworks, exploded on Sunday.

“Naglabas tayo ng ex-parte suspension order sa operation ng terminal tintignan natin if bahagi sila ng negligence, and why nakakapasok ang ganong klase ng kargamento,” Marikina City Mayor Marcy Teodoro said in an interview over radio station DZBB.

Teodoro noted the law strictly prohibits the manufacturing, transporting, distributing and selling of illegal fireworks.

“Ang nakita base sa imbestigasyon, malakas na uri kaya ang lakas ng pagsabog,” he added.

Teodoro said that the terminal services provincial routes to which buses and trucks for delivery are allowed to park.

However, they are investigating as to why the truck was unloading.

“Galing ito sa Taytay (Rizal) at may dalang tela. Idineklara na ang dala tela. But in the morning nagbababa ng gamit kasabay ang mga paputok. Hindi ito conclusive pa, pero baka nagdididstribute na kasi bakit kailangan i-transfer,” Teodoro asked.

Teodoro said the operator of the truck and the terminal are being investigated now, as to why such was allowed entry and given access to a public place.
