AMID the controversy involving the corruption with some flood control projects, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is now calling for a lifestyle check on all government officials.
In a press conference released by Malacanang on Wednesday, Palace Press Office undersecretary Claire Castro stated that the president ordered a lifestyle check as part of the ongoing investigation into flood-control projects.
Castro stated that the lifestyle check could start with DPWH officials, as well as a thorough record review of the government agency.
Netizens’ outcry amid lifestyle feature
Recently, an outcry amongst netizens had taken over the internet after a lifestyle vlog featuring executives of St. Gerrard Construction went viral.
Featuring the luxuries of the contractors in the vlogs, many netizens have expressed their anger towards the executives, especially with their names being involved amid the corruption in DPWH flood projects.
Following the devastating effects of bagyong Crising, Dante, and Emong, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) recorded that more than 9.5 million was affected.
In the previous 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA) of Bongbong Marcos, he began calling out those government officials who pocketed the funds intended for flood control projects.
As part of the initiative, the president has recently released the website “Sumbong sa Pangulo,” while urging the citizens to submit reports amid incomplete and failed flood control projects within their areas.
The areas that were listed to have the most flood control projects are in Bulacan counting with 668 projects, 414 projects in Cebu, and 337 projects in Isabela.
Bulacan ranking on top, it was discovered that the municipality of Bulacan had bagged a total of P43.5 billion worth of flood control contracts from 2021 to 2024. The city of Baliwag, Bulacan, was listed as having the most flood control contracts, with a total of 87 projects with a total of P6.02 billion.
