THE National Grid Corporation of the Philippines warned residents under the Luzon and Visayas grids that they will be placed on red and yellow alert.
This as state weather forecaster PAGASA said that Metro Manila and 23 other areas were under the dangerous heat index levels.
A statement from the NGCP said that the Luzon grid will be placed alternately under yellow and red alert.
According to the schedule, those under Yellow Alert:
- 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
- 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- 9 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Meanwhile, under Red Alert:
- 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The NGCP said that the Luzon grid carries an available capacity of 13,537MW and has a peak demand of 13,024MW.
NGCP also noted that 19 power plants were under a forced outage, as three others were said to be running on derated capacities, for a total of 2,117.3MW unavailable to the grid.
Meanwhile the Visayas grid is on yellow alert from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The available capacity for the 2,742MW and peak demand of 2,440MW.
There are at least 12 power plants are on forced outage, while five others are running on derated capacities.
The NGCP said that there is a total of 676.5MW unavailable to the grid.
The NGCP said the red alert status is made so as when the power supply is insufficient there is a need to meet consumer demand.
The yellow alert on the other hand is being issued as the margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
The Department of Energy had earlier said that the power sector is implementing ways to avoid possible power interruptions amid the impact of the El Niño phenomenon and dry season on the country.
