JOHN Amores, a professional player in the Philippine Basketball Association surrendered to police after being involved in a shooting incident in Laguna.

According to reports, Amores presented himself to authorities at around 2 a.m.. He was with his brother.

He refused to make any comments when sought by television crews and reporters.

Amores is facing charges of attempted murder and is expected to undergo inquest proceedings.

Initial investigations showed that Amores, and the victim who was identified as Lee Cacalda, were playing basketball in Barangay Salac.

It was there that they got into a heated argument.

“Meron silang tawag na hindi napagkasunduan. Naghamunan ng suntukan sa Brgy. Salac then naunang umalis itong suspek natin tapos sumunod iyong victim, hanggang umabot sila sa Brgy. Maytalang at doon sila nagpang-abot. naghamunan ulit ng another na suntukan. then si John Amores ay may dala nang baril at pinaputukan na yung ating victim,” said Police Major Bob Louis Ordiz.

The victim was able to escape unscathed.

Police said that Amores threw his gun he used but said that he surrendered due to “threats.”

“Nag-voluntary surrender po siya sa ating station at dahil.. nagkakaroon ng threat sa kanilang buhay. Sa kanilang pareho. Iyon lang po ang napagdesisyunan nila na natatakot na sila sa kanilang seguridad,” sabi ni Ordiz.

It will be recalled that Amores was involved in an altercation in the NCCA.

In 2022, while playing for the Jose Rizal University player at the time, he went berserk and punched a player from the College of Saint Benilde.
