by Kiko Cueto

THE start of the Christmas Season in the Philippines is off to a wet start with the southwest monsoon locally known as habagat and a low pressure area expected to bring in heavy rains.

This prompted the government to suspend classes in different areas in the country, due to the perceived downpour today which could mirror Saturday’s rains which had 36 villages in Quezon City with floods.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla said that according to the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council they are expecting heavy rains with possibilities of floods in Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna and Bulacan.

This is why classes in all levels (Public and Private) and government work are suspended in the said areas.

It also included Albay, Antique, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate, Negros Occidental, Northern Samar, Occidental Mindoro, Pampanga, Quezon, Rizal, and Sorsogon

More Storms coming

Meanwhile, the state weather forecasters predict that up to four tropical cyclones are expected this month.

PAGASA said that the possible tropical cyclones may make landfall over Extreme Northern Luzon and Southern Luzon.
