WHILE there are no typhoons in the country, several areas in the Philippines were flooded due to the intertropical convergence zone and shearline, forcing a suspension in classes or a reverting to online sessions.
Among the areas that suspended classes include: Ligao City, Albay (all levels, public and private); Jovellar, Albay (no face-to-face classes, all levels, public and private; shift to alternative learning modality); Polangui, Albay (no face-to-face classes, all levels, public and private; shift to alternative learning modality).
Likewise, Tabaco, Albay (no face-to-face classes, all levels, public and private; shift to alternative learning modality) and in Tacloban City (all levels, public and private).
A shear line is defined by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration as a narrow corridor along which there is an abrupt change in the horizontal component of the wind.
It is a line of maximum horizontal wind shear that occurs when easterly trades interact with winds with an enhanced northerly component (in the north hemisphere) that develop ahead of a cold front.
Basically, it is the meeting or clashing of cold and hot winds, resulting to the rains.
