TPO vs. PNP ops in KOJC compound issued by Davao RTC

by Kiko Cueto

THE camp of embattled Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, founder of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, who is facing multiple charges, was able to secure a temporary protection order from a Davao City Regional Trial Court.

Davao City RTC Branch 15 Judge Mario Duaves issued the order after a petition was filed by the lawyer of KOJC Atty. Israelito Torreon, against the actions of Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

They also challenged the ongoing police operations inside the property.

In coming with a decision the court noted that the authorities had trampled on the property rights of the petitioners, as well as the exercise of their religious and academic rights.

Duaves also tasked the PNP in the Davao Region to “immediately cease and desist from any act or omission that threatens the life, liberty, or security, as well as the properties, of the petitioners.”

It will be recalled that some 18 supporters of KOJC were arrested as the police breach a barricade set up by fugitive preacher Apollo Quiboloy’s supporters.

Also, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin said that the move is not politically motivated.

“The PNP XI is hereby ordered to remove all barricades, barriers, or blockades that bar access to and from the subject compound and hinder petitioners’ religious, academic, and proprietary rights and the pursuit thereof by its officers and members within and surrounding the premises,” part of the court order said.

Torreon had issued a petition for KOJC and the Jose Maria College Foundation (JMC).

Earlier, Torreon alleges that the police had started drilling inside the school owned by Quiboloy.

Authorities insist that he fugitive pastor is hiding inside the compound as well as four of his associates wanted on charges of child abuse and trafficking.

The search at the KOJC compound for Quiboloy and his co-accused has entered its fourth day, as police vowed to search the entire 30-hectare property.
