THE UPPER chamber of Congress is now an impeachment court.
This was after the senators had convened for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
The senators started taking their oath at 6 p.m.
Earlier, Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero took his oath as the presiding officer of the impeachment court.
Meanwhile, Senators Robin Padilla, Imee Marcos, and Cynthia Villar who are known supporters of the vice president, did not wear their robes but took their oaths as senator-judges.
It will be recalled that Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa had filed a motion asking that the verified impeachment complaint against Sara Duterte be dismissed.
“I respectfully move that in view of its Constitutional infirmities and questions on the jurisdiction and authority of the 20th Congress, the verified impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Zimmerman Duterte be dismissed,” Dela Rosa said.
But Escudero ruled that it will be taken up with the Senate if convened as an impeachment court.
The session was suspended so that the senators could put on their robes as senator-judges.
