Rains from shearline results in deaths and missing in Bicol

by Kiko Cueto

THREE people are dead due to separate drowning incidents in Camarines Sur during the weekend.

Heavy rains poured anew over the Bicol Region with the town of Ragay, Camarines Sur being hit hardest. The downpour was due to the shearline affecting major parts of the country.

Initial reports said that a 39-year-old man drowned on Saturday when he tried to retrieve his jacket, after crossing the PNR Binahan Bridge.

Two senior citizens on the other hand were swept away by strong currents on Sunday. They were trying to cross an overflowing spillway in Cabusao town.

The Cabusao Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management said that the bodies were found within four hours of each other on Monday morning.

“Iyong sasakyan daw nila, biglang kumaliwa daw sila dahil sa agos ng tubig tsaka sila nahulog sa kalsada,”  CMDRRM officer Jose Reyes was quoted as saying.

Three people were also reported missing in Camarines Sur.

Two of the missing persons were reported in Cabusao while the other one in Ragay.

In Camarines Norte, a person was reported dead while three were missing due to  landslides and floods.

The reported death came from Barangay Anameam in Labo, Camarines Norte, where police said a landslide occurred.

The shearline is an area where warm and cold air meet.

On Monday, it will bring scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms in Metro Manila, Mimaropa, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Western Visayas, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, and Bulacan, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.
