THE Philippine National Police on Friday attempted but failed to serve an arrest warrant against actor Ken Chan in his Quezon City home over charges of syndicated estafa.
A charge of syndicated estafa under Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code is considered as non-bailable and punishable with lifetime imprisonment.
The complainant, a 4-50 year-old businessman, claimed that Ken and seven other co-accused are facing charges due to an alleged investment scam.
Initial reports said that the money involved was at P14 million.
According to the victim’s lawyers, Atty. Joseph Noel Estrada and Atty. Maverick Romero of Estrada & Aquino Law Office the money was given to the group in tranches.
“I think, base doon sa complaint, mga dalawang bigayan in less than a year,” Estrada said.
He added that Estrada Ken and his co-accused are not authorized to solicit investments.
“Using misrepresentation and fraudulent escapes, nakakuha sila ng pera against dito sa complainant,” he said.
A previous arrest warrant was attempted in September, but Ken was also not in his residence.
