PNP kicks off fitness program

by Deanna Macaranas

AS part of the Philippine National Police (PNP) initiative, they reboot a nationwide fitness drive that is required to be attended by officers and personnel from various national support units and offices of the NHQ.

In a previous Super Radyo dzBB interview with PNP Chief General Nicolas Torre III, he stated that overweight police officers should be able to trim down their weight after a year, as maintaining an optimal weight is part of the general qualifications to become a member of the police force.

This is listed under Section 30 of the Republic Act No. 6975, also known as the Department of the Interior and Local Government Act of 1990.

Not being able to trim down their weight can cause a dismissal from service.

Meanwhile, as for those who are dealing with health problems, they may face “complete disability discharge” or may be transferred to administrative work.

On June 24, 2025, the Philippine National Police launched the resumption of the regular physical program “Pulisteniks,” held at the Transformation Oval, Camp BGen Rafael T. Crame.

“Today, we gather not for a traditional police event but for something just as essential: The kick-off of our regular physical conditioning program—Pulisteniks. This initiative is not just about stretching or running laps. It is about recognizing a simple truth that too often gets overlooked: a healthy body is a healthy mind,” PNP Police General Nicolas D. Torre III said.

He also urged the police personnel to not treat the fitness program as an obligation but as something that should be a part of one’s everyday lifestyle.

The “Pulisteniks,” is a program that is part of PNP’s broader internal wellness campaign that reinforces the value of physical readiness as a foundation for excellence and responsive policing.

Torre further noted that a strong and healthy PNP is a dependable PNP, and a dependable PNP is what the country needs.
