PHILIPPINE National Police Chief Police General Nicolas Torre III said that overweight police officers will be dismissed from service if they’re not able to trim down their weight after a year.
In an interview over Super Radyo dzBB, Torre said that one of the general qualifications for appointment to be a member of PNP is that a person must weigh not more or less than five kilograms of the standard weight according to his/her height, sex, and age.
“So ibig sabihin, kung may standard weight and height, hindi ka dapat sobra ng five kilos hindi ka mababa,” he said.
This is listed under Section 30 of the Republic Act No. 6975, also known as the Department of the Interior and Local Government Act of 1990.
Torre further explained that cops who aren’t within his or her standard weight would be given a year to trim down their weight.
Failure to comply with the regulation will cause the cop to be dismissed from service.
Meanwhile, for those who are dealing with a medical condition, Torre noted that they may face “complete disability discharge” or may be transferred to administrative work.
Torre added that they will consult with the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) regarding the said matter.
By following the said regulation, the PNP stated that this will evoke discipline to the public.
