PAGASA: “Leon” moving across Philippine sea; Storm signals may be raised anew

by Kiko Cueto

BARELY recovering from Severe Tropical Storm “Kristine” state weather forecasters said the newest weather disturbance, Tropical Storm Leon, has maintained its strength as it barrels westward over the Philippine Sea.

According to PAGASA, Leon was estimated at 1,195 km east of Central Luzon.

It packs maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 80 km/h, and central pressure of 994 hPa.

It is said to be moving westward at 20 km/h.

According to PAGASA, they might hoist Storm Signal No. 1 over parts of Cagayan Valley and the northeastern portion of Bicol Region on Sunday night.

They said that the highest TCWS that may be raised is Signal No. 2, but this depends on the storm’s track

The new weather disturbance is not seen to directly affect the country’s weather condition within the forecast period, however, the outer rainbands may affect Extreme Northern Luzon.
