OCTA Research: Marcos Jr. performance ratings surge, as VP Sara’s ratings decline

by Kiko Cueto

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. recorded higher performance ratings as his administration continues to strengthen the agriculture and fisheries sector to the grassroots level, in contrast to Vice President Sara Duterte whose ratings are on a decline.

According to the Tugon ng Masa (TNM) second quarter 2024 poll conducted by OCTA Research, the President’s satisfaction ratings surged across the board from all socioeconomic classes.

President Marcos enjoyed an 11-point surge in Classes ABC, 2-point increase in Class D and a 3-point increase in Class E, according to the OCTA Research poll which was conducted from June 30 to July 5 this year.

The President also enjoyed surges in performance satisfaction ratings in key geographical areas, particularly an 8-point surge in Mindanao, a 5-point increase in Visayas and a 3-point increase in Metro Manila.

“It is also noted that this is the first time President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has registered a higher trust and performance rating than Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio based on TNM surveys in the last three years,” read the statement issued by OCTA Research.

Vice-President Sara Duterte, meanwhile, suffered an across-the-board decline in satisfaction of her performance—a 6-point decline in Metro Manila, a 3-point decline in Balance Luzon, a 4-point decline in Visayas and a 1-point decline in Mindanao.

The Vice President’s ratings also declined by 3-points and 6-points in Classes D and E, respectively.

“It must be noted that the Vice President Duterte’s trust and performance ratings continue to trend downward for the 2nd straight quarter in 2024,” the polling firm said.

The OCTA Research poll was conducted amid the President’s rounds across provinces as the Marcos administration attempted to rescue farmers, fisherfolk and their families from the impact of the El Niño phenomenon.

President Marcos had also successfully implemented the distribution of the Presidential Assistance to Farmers, Fisherfolk and Families (PAFFF), providing the necessary aid to Filipino agricultural workers to strengthen their sector.
