NHCP bares Rizal Day activities

by Kiko Cueto

ON Monday, December 30, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) will be rolling out their lineup of activities for the commemoration of Rizal Day.

This will mark the 128th death anniversary of Gat Jose Rizal.

The NHCP will be having three key events, the first of which is the Nationwide Flag-Raising and Wreath-Laying Ceremonies. It will take place at 7 a.m. in three significant locations: Rizal Park in Manila, the Rizal Shrine in Calamba, and the Rizal Shrine in Dapitan City.

The next is an exhibit unveiling of “Remembering Rizal in Artworks and Monuments.” It will open at 8:00 a.m. at the NHCP Central Office in Ermita, Manila.

The third entails a workshop and exhibit “Hagod Rizal” which is a commemorative exhibit and portraiture workshop.

It will start at 10:00 a.m. at the Museo ni Jose Rizal in Fort Santiago, Intramuros, Manila.

The NHCP called on the public to participate in these events.

The National Museum on the other hand unveiled the “Sleeping Josephine,” a sculpture of Jose Rizal’s wife, Josephine Bracken, at the National Museum of Fine Arts.

It will be available for the public to view on December 30.

Rizal Day was declared as a National Day of Mourning in 1898 by then-President Emilio Aguinaldo.

This is to honor Rizal’s execution on December 30, 1896, at Rizal Park in Manila.
