MORE medicines for cancer, diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, and mental illness were included in the list of drugs that had been exempted from value-added tax (VAT) by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
According to the FDA Advisory No. 2025-0510 dated June 4, in had included two medicines each for cancer, diabetes, and hypertension, one for high cholesterol, and three for mental illness.
The FDA said that for cancer, those included were: Tegafur + Gimeracil + Oteracil Potassium capsule (20 mg/5.8 mg/19.6 mg); Tegafur + Gimeracil + Oteracil Potassium capsule (25 mg/7.25 mg/24.5 mg).
On the other hand, for diabetes, the medicines include: Metformin Hydrochloride + Teneligliptin extended-release tablet (as hydrobromide hydrate) (1 g/20 mg); and Metformin Hydrochloride + Teneligliptin extended release tablet (as hydrobromide hydrate) (500 mg/20 mg).
For high cholesterol include Atorvastatin (as calcium) + Fenobribrate film-coated tablet (20 mg/160 mg).
Those for hypertension medicines included: Metoprolol tartrate + Ivabradine film-coated tablet (as hydrochloride) (50 mg/5 mg) and Metoprolol tartrate + Ivabradine film-coated tablet (as hydrochloride) (25 mg/5 mg).
The three medicines for mental illnesses include: Lamotrigine dispersible/chewable tablet (5 mg); Lamotrigine oral dispersible tablet (25 mg); and Lamotrigine tablet (25 mg).
