MMDA: Sleep, self-control and designated drivers after parties a must

by Kiko Cueto

WITH Christmas parties left and right, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) appealed to the public to exercise discipline and self-control, so as to avoid road crashes, with some resulting in injuries and sometimes, death.

According to the MMDA, in 2023 road crashes were recorded at some 86,000.

Most of the said damage was to property and were non-fatal.

Human error was said to be at the top reason for the road crashes.

It also stated that driving under the influence of alcohol, fatigue and tiredness are the top three reasons for human errors.

The MMDA also noted that from January to November, human error contributed to a greater majority of the almost 67,000 road crashes.

According to MMDA’s Chief of Special Operations Group Strike Force Gabriel Go, who admitted that no agency can actually control the amount of alcohol an individual can consume, it would be best to have a designated driver.
