THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Thursday announced that they had temporarily disabled “features” in their social media Facebook page, “to deny trolls a platform for their suspicious activities.”
The AFP said troll farms are a “menace to society.”
“We choose not to empower inauthentic actors in their coordinated attempt to disinformation and malinformation,” the AFP said.
The social media pages of the government is being riddled with negative comments being attributed to “trolls.”
A troll is described as a person who intentionally antagonizes others online by posting inflammatory, irrelevant, or offensive comments or other disruptive content.
Likewise, the AFP asked for understanding from the general public.
“We understand that legitimate followers will be affected by this temporary move. We extend our sincere apologies for the inconvenience and ask for your patience. We hope for your continued understanding and support,” they added.
The AFP also asked the public to only get sources from “credible organizations.”
“Statements, releases, and information on our activities will continue to be posted on our official channels and legitimate media organizations. We call on everyone to report malicious activities online and receive information from reputable sources only,” the AFP said.
