AS torrential rains from the southwest monsoon (Habagat) lashed Metro Manila and nearby provinces on Monday, major shopping mall chains SM Supermalls and Robinsons Malls opened their doors to offer temporary shelter for stranded commuters and residents.
In separate announcements on social media, both mall operators said select branches would extend their operating hours to accommodate the public as transportation services were halted and floodwaters rose in many areas.
They offered free overnight parking, charging stations, and free Wi-Fi. Here are the SM and Robinsons mall branches offering shelter and support:

Meanwhile, convenience store chain 7-Eleven likewise announced that its stores are welcoming stranded individuals seeking shelter from the heavy rains.
The announcements came as flooding and traffic congestion worsened across the capital due to the continuous heavy rains. Local governments have since suspended classes and government work in affected areas.
