Pagasa weather update: Kristine slows; another LPA spotted

by Bryan Gadingan

“KRISTINE,” which became a severe tropical storm yesterday, has slowly decelerated after making landfall at Divilacan, Isabela, and will continue to travel northwestward over North Luzon on Thursday.

According to PAGASA’s most recent tropical cyclone bulletin, the severe tropical storm made a landfall in Isabela at 12:30 AM, and due to land interaction, it gradually decelerated.

Meanwhile, PAGASA’s weather forecaster, Benison Estareja said that Kristine might appear over the waters west of the Ilocos Region this afternoon or tonight.

“Base sa latest satellite animation, ito na ‘yung peak na magkakaroon tayo ng malakas na hangin at ulan na siyang direktang epekto ng bagyong Kristine lalo na sa Northern at Central Luzon,” said Estareja.

Kristine could leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Friday afternoon. However, another low pressure area was observed outside of PAR, with a high likelihood of developing into a tropical depression.

Moreover, PAGASA has stated that there is a moderate to high risk of life-threatening storm surge up to 3 meters above normal tide levels in the next 48 hours over low-lying or exposed coastal areas.

The following provinces may be affected: Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Cagayan, Isabela, Aurora, Zambales, and Quezon.
