AS social media buzzed over the recent earthquakes as being related, state seismologists were quick to calm down the social media mumblings that the said tremors are interconnected.
Earlier posts in social media claimed that the said quakes are part of something big, but the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology noted that nobody can predict earthquakes.
“Walang koneksyon sa isa’t isa, may kanya-kanya silang fault system,” Johnlery Deximo, a senior science research specialist at Phivolcs said as posted by ABS-CBN.
He explained that the country has 180 active fault segments and has six active trenches. All of these are capable of generating earthquakes.
According to Phivolcs, they are closely monitoring seismic activity, as they called on netizens to practice caution on posting information.
He said that spreading unverified or sensational content may cause unnecessary panic and confusion.
