THIS September, students will be able to avail Beep cards with automatic 50% fare discount when riding LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3; and here is everything you need to know about this new government initiative.
On Beep’s official website, it stated that students just need to visit any train station of LRT and MRT and inform station tellers that they want to avail the discounted Beep card.
They must present a valid school ID or proof of enrollment for the current school year or semester. Afterwhich, a personalized card will be printed on the spot.
The student Beep card is valid for a year, unlike its counterpart for senior citizens and persons with disability which has a lifetime validity.
Students of all levels – from kindergarten, elementary, high school, college, even graduate students, as well as those in Alternative Learning System (ALS) and Special Education (SPED) are eligible for the discount card.
Just like a regular store-value card, the student Beep card is reloadable at tellers or machines at the train station.
In a media interview, MRT-3 General Manager Mike Capati said that should the student holder lose their Beep card, they must provide a certificate of loss which will be validated before they could once again provide the basic requirements for a student discounted Beep card.
To prevent misuse, old and reported lost cards will be blacklisted.
These student Beep cards will be available starting in the second week of September.
