DIGITAL wallet provider GCash warned consumers to be wary of “spoofing scam” with some reporting that they received phishing links through its official SMS alert number.
In a statement, GCash said that many users complained as they had been receiving scam messages.
Earlier, telcos, along with the National Telecommunications Commission had issued a ban on the use of links in SMS to curb phishing scams.
According to Gcash it issued a warning, “Ingat sa spoofing scam! ‘Wag magtiwala agad sa mga SMS na nagpapanggap na mula sa GCash at maging alerto laban sa scammers na gumagamit ng ilegal na software para magmukhang legit ang sender.”
GCash also said that scammers were using “IMSI Catcher” in order to send out SMS scam messages as they mimic credible brands.
GCash said that they will not send links via email or SMS.
