63 seats for 54 party list groups proclaimed

by Kiko Cueto

AKBAYAN, the leading party list group for the #BotongKabataan 2025, led the proclamation of party list groups by the Commission on Elections.

Akbayan, Duterte Youth and Tingog each got three seats in Congress, as ACT-CIS and Ako Bicol got two seats for the 20th Congress.

This meant that Akbayan would be able to have their three nominees of Chel Diokno, Percival Cendana and Dadah Kiram Ismula to have a congressional seat.

Duterte Youth on the other hand will have Drixie Mae Suarez Cardema, Berlin Baday Lingwa and Ron Godfrey Waggawag Bawalan.

On the other hand, the three nominees of Tingog party-list are Andrew Julian Romualdez, Jude Acidre and Happy Calatrava.

Under the law, parties who got at least 2 percent of the total votes shall be entitled to one seat each.

Meanwhile, those who failed to get 2 percent of the votes in 2 consecutive elections will have their accreditation removed.

“Kung gusto nilang sumali sa susunod na eleksyon kailangan nilang mag-file ng petition for accreditation,” the Comelec chief said.

Suspended Proclamations

Meanwhile, the poll body suspended the proclamations of the Duterte Youth and Bangong Henerasyon partylist due to complaints lodged before them.

The Comelec, sitting as the National Board of Canvassers had earlier issued a  resolution that called for the suspension of the said winning party-lists at Manila Hotel Tent City.

“In its recommendation dated May 17, 2025, the supervisory committee has recommended the suspension of the proclamation of Duterte Youth Partylist and BH Bagong Henerasyon,” Comelec chairman George Erwin Garcia said.

“Considering the serious allegations raised in the above petitions which involved grave violation of election laws, the National Board of Canvassers resolves to suspend the proclamation of Duterte Youth Party-list and Bagong Henerasyon Party-lists until the speedy and judicious resolution of the petitions filed before the Clerk of Commission,” Garcia added.
