SOME 26 Filipinos who took up Philippine Embassy’s offer of repatriation amid the escalating tension between Iran and Israel have safely arrived at Jordan, Sunday, June 22, 2025.
They are the first batch of OFWs to leave Israel and are set to return to the Philippines on Tuesday morning.
The OFWs were welcomed by Philippine Ambassador Jordan Wilfredo Santos and Migrant Worker Secretary Hans Cacdac who oversaw their safe passage.
Sec. Cacdac said that the government is currently processing the repatriation of 233 more Filipinos from Israel.
Meanwhile, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said that the repatriated Filipinos stayed in their shelter where they received relief packages and free legal services. The Embassy provided for their travelers’ transportation, transit visas, travel documents, and plane tickets.
On June 13, Israel launched several airstrikes on Iran, alleging that the country was developing nuclear weapons.
Iran quickly retaliated, sending its own air assaults against Israel.
On Sunday, the United States joined the conflict, bombing three nuclear sites in Iran.
The United Nations have expressed concerns regarding the escalating tension between countries as it will affect other nations in the process. They push for diplomacy instead.
The Philippines, through a statement released by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), also echoed this sentiment.
“We strongly urged concerned parties to take the path of diplomacy and avoid further escalation of this conflict that could threaten regional and international peace and security,” they said.
“The welfare and safety of the Filipinos in the region are of primordial concern and the Philippine Government will relentlessly continue to advance and prioritize their protection.”
As of now, the DFA raised the alert to Iran and Israel to level three, highly discouraging travel to both these countries and encouraging the Filipinos staying there to return home.
