Heavy penalties for Edsa Bus Lane violators in effect

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has started implementing a stiffer penalty for violators of the EDSA Carousel lane that is exclusively for buses.

According to MMDA Chairman Romando “Don” Artes and LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza 2nd they personally supervised the said implementation.

Their team stood in front of a mall in Mandaluyong City.

According to their data as of 5 a.m., 485 vehicles and motorcycles have been apprehended.

They said that as per the MMDA Regulation No. 23-002 was approved by the Metro Manila Council, the increased fines for the violation of exclusive city bus lane/EDSA carousel lane regulation for both public and private vehicles are P5,000 for the first offense.

It will go up by P10,000 plus one month suspension of driver’s license and a mandatory road safety seminar for the second offense, and a P20,000 plus one year suspension of driver’s license for third offense and P30,000 plus recommendation for revocation of driver’s license for the fourth offense.

“‘Yang Bus Carousel ay exclusive sa bus lamang, so ‘pag pumasok ka diyan, alam mo agad na ikaw, you have the intention to violate the law,” Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Procopio Lipana was quoted as saying.
