by Kiko Cueto

THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced the route for the grand homecoming that was set for Paris Olympics double gold medalist Carlos Yulo, bronze medalists Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio, and the rest of the Philippine team.

According to the MMDA, the athletes will be going around the streets of Manila on Tuesday afternoon.

The MMDA advised motorists and commuters to avoid several areas where traffic is expected to be heavy.

The traffic will have a stop-and-go scheme.

From the airport, the athletes will be going to the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.

A parade will start from 3 p.m., going to Malacañang where President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will be waiting.

The MMDA said that from PICC, the parade will pass along the V. Sotto Center Island, turn left to Roxas Boulevard, right to P. Burgos Avenue, straight to Finance Road, straight to Ayala Boulevard, straight to Casal Street, straight to Legarda Street, right to Chino Roces Bridge (Mendiola), right Jose Laurel Street and to the Palace.

After the Summer Games, where the Philippines finished 35th place with 2 golds and 2 bronze, the Paralympics will run from Aug. 28 to Sept. 8.

A total of 4,400 athletes will compete in 549 sports.

Six para athletes will participate — Jerrold Pete Mangliwan (wheelchair racing), Cendy Asusano (para javelin throw), Allain Keanu Ganapin (taekwondo), Agustina Bantiloc (archery) and Ernie Gawilan and Angel Otom (swimming).
