Flooded areas in Metro Manila due to ‘Enteng’

by Joanna Deala

STATE weather bureau PAGASA issued a heavy rainfall warning on Monday in several parts of the country, including Metro Manila, due to Tropical Storm Enteng.

Heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm Enteng caused flooding in several parts of the National Capital Region (NCR). PAGASA raised an orange rainfall warning over Metro Manila, which means flooding is threatening in low-lying areas and near river channels.

According to Valenzuela City Command, Control and Communication Center’s latest flood updates, Bahay Kanlungan Maysan and Bypass Veinte Reales are not passable to light vehicles because of knee-deep flood.

Footbridge Dalandandan, Bartolome St. Malanday, and Rincon corner Pasolo have gutter deep flood but are still passable to all vehicles.

The Valenzuela City government said operations of pumping stations in the city continue to minimize flooding brought by heavy rains. The city’s floodgates were also already opened.

Meanwhile, Mayapis St. corner Buendia in San Antonio, Makati is not passable to light vehicles.

As of 10 a.m., the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported that the eastbound of Commonwealth Ylanan and Commonwealth University Avenue experienced gutter-deep floods but remains passable to all types of vehicles.

Gutter-to-knee-deep flood level is also experienced in different villages in Parañaque City, including Baclaran, San Dionisio, Sto. Niño, and Tambo.

The City of Manila, on the other hand, said that all roads are passable in the area, as of 8:52 a.m.

Heavy rainfall warning

PAGASA issued red rainfall warning over Quezon, which means severe flooding is expected and necessary precautionary measures are needed.

Orange rainfall warning was also raised over Laguna, Batangas, Cavite, and Rizal.

Meanwhile, yellow rainfall warning was hoisted over Bulacan and Bataan, which means flooding is possible in low-lying areas and near river channels.

A general flood advisory has also been issued over the whole of Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Marikina River on second alarm

The water level in the Marikina River rose to second alarm on Monday morning due to the non-stop rain.

As of 10:55 a.m., the Marikina City Public Information Office (PIO) reported that the water level reached 17 meters, advising residents to evacuate.

If this rises to 18 meters, the city will have to implement forced evacuation.

Number coding suspended

Due to the inclement weather, the MMDA also suspended the implementation of the expanded number coding scheme in Metro Manila on Monday.

Classes and government work in the NCR were also suspended, said Malacañang.

However, the suspension of work for private companies and offices would be left to the discretion of their respective heads.
