DTI: Price guide for school supplies out

by Kiko Cueto

IT’S that time of the year anew, and parents and students are in a busy shopping mode, prompting the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to release a price guide, aimed to help consumers in purchasing school supplies.

The DTI price guide is inclusive of specific brands of notebooks, pad paper, pencils, ballpoint pens, crayons, erasers, sharpeners and rulers.

A total of 68 percent or some 80 of the 117 stock keeping units (SKUs) had remained the same.

On the other hand, eight percent or nine SKUs had opted to slash their prices.

But there are 24 percent or 28 SKUs that showed price increases.

For the 2024 price guide, the price of a notebook ranges from P11.80 to P52.

The prices of Grades 1 to 4 pad paper vary from P9.50 to P61.

On the other hand, intermediate pad paper is priced from P13.80 to P48.75.

The writing materials, including pencils and ballpoint pens, has a price range from P11 to P33 and P3 to P33, respectively.

For the crayons, consumers may purchase a box of eight colors for as low as P12 (regular) to as high as P65 (jumbo).

A 12-color pack costs P32, as a 16-color pack is from from P24 to P83.

The 24-color pack is priced from P34 to P114.

For sharpeners and rulers, they are priced at P15 to P69 and P16 to P29.

Erasers who carry small, medium and large sizes are ranging from P4.50 to P20, unchanged from last year. The DTI said that they there should be a streamlined Suggested Retail Price (SRP) Bulletin.
