THE Department of Transportation is eyeing the completion of the Kamuning footbridge in Quezon City, connected to the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) busway, by the end of the year.   

Aside from the restoration of the Kamuning footbridge, DOTR is also set to rehabilitate the EDSA busway by connecting the footbridge on the sides of the busway. 

The upgraded Kamuning footbridge is set to have elevators and wheelchair lifters for inclusive accessibility for commuters. 

The total cost of the new Kamuning footbridge and upgraded EDSA busway will be P89,129,402.57, according to the project briefer.  

P53.96 million of this budget will be allotted for the footbridge, while P33.26 million will be allocated for the station rehabilitation. 

Meanwhile, the P1 million will be for engineers’ facilities, P488,049 for safety measures, and P420,388 for the traffic plan. 

According to Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon, their target is to finish the footbridge and station by December. 

“Our designers are also fully compliant with mobility and accessibility standards,” he said on the press briefing last Thursday.”   

In 2018, pictures of the Kamuning bridge began being dubbed as “Mt. Kamuning” due to its unusual height that goes above the active railway of Kamuning Station. 

With the bridge being too high, the bridge was barely used due to safety concerns. 

Last June, President Ferdinand “BongBong” Marcos Jr. ordered the dismantling of the footbridge, stating that they had to tear it down and build a new one.
