DepEd debunks additional year for high school

by Deanna Macaranas

THE Department of Education (DepEd) recently debunked a Facebook post announcing an additional Grade 13 year in high school for the upcoming school year 2025-2026.

The said misleading Facebook post was posted by a page titled ‘Educational News,” featuring the logo of DepEd and the Commission on Higher Education, as they claim that there would be a Grade 13.

The Department of Education has since made a clarification of this, debunking it as fake news in a Viber message with reporters last Sunday.

DepEd has since posted a statement on Facebook debunking the implementation of the high school year.

In the caption, DepEd gave out a warning to the public stating that information like this should only be checked on their official social media pages.

Currently, the Philippines’ basic education has only Grades 11 and 12 in senior high school.

During the pandemic lockdown, DepEd and CHED had moved their class schedule to August.

For the upcoming 2025-2026 school year, the classes are bound to start on June 16, 2025, and set to end on March 31, 2026.
