THE Department of Education (DepEd) warned the public against a fake advisory circulating on social media about “Saturday classes” for elementary to senior high school (SHS) students.
The fake advisory claimed that these primary to secondary school students would begin attending Saturday classes on July 5, 2025.
“Fake news ang kumakalat na social media post tungkol sa umano’y pagdaragdag ng Saturday classes sa elementary hanggang senior high school,” the agency said on Facebook.
“Muling pinaaalalahanan ng DepEd ang publiko na mag-ingat at maging mapanuri laban sa anumang uri ng misinformation,” it added.
The DepEd advised netizens to visit its official social media accounts for official announcements and information related to basic education.
In May, the agency debunked a circulating Facebook post about the supposed addition of Grade 13 to the country’s SHS program for School Year 2025-2026.
Education Assistant Secretary Janir Datukan earlier clarified during a briefing before the House Committee on Basic Education and Culture that the DepEd had not discussed nor planned to add a Grade 13 to the SHS program.
Classes for School Year 2025-2026 in public schools across the country opened on June 16, with over 27 million students trooping back to their respective classrooms.
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. directed several government agencies to provide Filipino students with their basic needs, including the supply of water and electricity and internet access in their schools.
He also directed Education Secretary Sonny Angara to improve the nation’s K-12 system, after Senator Jinggoy Estrada proposed the removal of the mandatory SHS level under the K-12 program as it “still has not fully achieved its goal.”
