De Lima granted bail by Muntinlupa court

by Kiko Cueto

FORMER Senator Leila de Lima was granted bail by a Muntinlupa court with regards to her remaining drug case, close to seven years after she was detained.

Atty. Boni Tacarardon, De Lima’s legal counsel, told reporters that the Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 206 has granted the petition of the former senator on her bail petition.

“Motion granted,” Tacardon said.

De Lima has been detained in Camp Crame since February 2017.

She was accused of illegal drugs.

She had repeatedly denied the allegations against her and said that it is but a political persecution.

De Lima was first acquitted in February 2021, after the Muntinlupa City RTC Branch 205 junked one of her three cases.

Next came on May 12, when the  Muntinlupa RTC Branch 204 also acquitted De Lima and Ronnie Dayan, her co-accused and former bodyguard, over illegal drugs citing reasonable doubt.
