CANDIDATES for various positions in the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) on Thursday began wooing voters ahead of the October 30 polls.

The Commission on Elections warned the candidates that failure to adhere to the campaign guidelines could result in disqualification and the filing of criminal charges.

The Philippine National Police, meanwhile, is now on heightened alert to ensure a peaceful and orderly campaign, which ends on October 28.

A total 42,001 barangay and SK chairperson positions as well as 294,007 posts for both Sangguniang Barangay and SK members are up for grabs.

The BSKE was supposed to be held last December, but it was postponed due to a law passed by Congress.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently declared October 30 a non-working day to allow Filipinos to cast their ballots for the BSKE.
