Bride in Cagayan De Oro arrested after putting her groom ‘under spell?’

by RepublicAsia

THE Internet went crazy after the disaster of a wedding in Cagayan De Oro, where the groom reportedly managed to escape the allegedly “gayuma” placed upon him by his bride after getting splashed by salt just right before their wedding ceremony.

It was meant to be an enchanting and unforgettable day for the groom and his future wife, as they were on the verge of embarking on a new adventure together as a family and as parents to their twins. Their wedding journey as shared by the bride sounds something out of a movie.

However, this turned out to be a huge nightmare for them when things took an intriguing twist when the supposed spell was shattered and the potion’s magic was revoked just as before they became husband and wife.

The said wedding was supposed to happen last 10th of March, in a hotel in Cagayan De Oro City where the civil wedding and the reception will be held.

Prior to their wedding occurring, the groom appeared to snap back to reality after his friend threw salt on him. As reported by several witnesses, the groom looked bewildered and seemed to still be questioning what was going on. And what was even more disturbing was their families, wedding guests and the judge that was supposed to wed the couple did not arrive. Thus, no tying of knot took place that day.

The said incident served as the beginning of many questions among the people present. Because for such an important celebration and a milestone, it is truly surprising why no one seemed to want to celebrate with the two.

In the same manner, according to the wedding organizers who were contacted by the bride three days before their supposed wedding resulting in them filing a case against the bride for not paying them with all the expenses they had covered amounting to more or less P500, 000.

‘Gayuma’ a mere Filipino Folklore?

In the Philippines, witch doctors or mananambals prepare gayuma, a powerful potion thought to be a remedy for a love that appears unattainable. Through the use of magic, an individual can easily cause the person they are fond of to fall in love with them. In exchange for a high amount of money, clients are eager to invest in this solution for unreturned affection, sexual desires, or even enduring loyalty.

Thus, some speculations began to spread among the netizens if the claims against the bride were true.

Many netizens conveyed their own opinions on the said “gayuma” issue of the bride.

“Natauhan lang ‘yung groom nung nalaman niyang wala naman talaga syang mapapala sa bride,” one commented. While some also requested for the groom’s side to be heard.

As the chaos accelerated even more, police entered the scene and later on the bride was seen heading towards the police vehicle. Furthermore, despite the various accusations against the bride for allegedly bewitching her groom, she still denies the allegations against her.

“Never ko talaga siya ginayuma,” said the bride in her interview with news magazine program Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS).

A few days have passed and it seems like people on social media still can’t move on from the incident. This left many wondering, was it true that the groom was put under spell?

This event serves as a message that marriage is a sacred institution. It serves as clear proof of the love shared between two individuals. It represents loyalty and a lifelong union between them, indicating their readiness to elevate their relationship to a deeper commitment. To cross the bridge together and build a family of their own.

In this modern day era, is gayuma still possible though? If it were you to be asked, would you believe it? Therefore, the inquiry continues to persist. Was  it truly witchcraft or simply a wedding that has not gone as planned?
