THE image of Nuestra Señora del Carmen de San Sebastian is now being met by the Black Nazarene at Plaza del Carmen, as of 2:57.
According to the San Sebastian Basilica Conservation and Development Foundation, Inc., the “Dungaw” rites are one of the highlights of Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno’s “Traslacion” Procession in Quiapo, Manila, held on his Feast Day, January 9.
The Black Nazarene temporarily stops in Plaza del Carmen at the Minor Basilica and Parish of San Sebastian during this ceremony to meet the figure of Nuestra Seora del Carmen de San Sebastian.
The “Dungaw” ceremonies are not a recreation of the Mother and Son’s encounter at the Way of the Cross.
Instead, they symbolize a religious etiquette between the King and Queen of Quiapo, who gather majestically to guide the faithful in prayer.
According to a situation assessment issued by the Manila Public Information Office (MPIO), the crowd estimate at the procession topped 500,000 believers by 1PM at Plaza Del Carmen, as reported by the Quiapo Church Command Center.
