Ad Agency apologized for “Gil Tulog” stunt

by Deanna Macaranas

THE Ad Agency behind the controversial “Gil Tulog” stunt at Makati issued an apology on their Facebook page—ensuring that the incident will not happen again.

On July 25, photos and videos of the “Gil Puyat” sign changing to “Gil Tulog” garnered thousands of mixed reactions from netizens.

Many internet users even joked about how Gil Puyat Avenue was finally able to take a rest after not being able to sleep for a long time while some took offense at the joke—stating how disrespectful it is.

One of the people who took offense to the publicity stunt is the son of late senator Gil Puyat, Victor, who also filed a complaint against the ad agency.

The complaint states how the agency violated the Code of Ethics of the Ad Standards council.

In a statement posted on their Facebook page, the agency—GIGIL said that they recognize the issue caused by their campaign.

The ad agency also added that they immediately discontinued the campaign for Wellspring following the controversy.

“Even as all the necessary permits and clearances were secured, our approach had resonated differently and so the campaign was immediately discontinued,” it read.

“Our agency will be putting in place more stringent measures to ensure this does not happen again,” they stressed. “Thank you for your understanding.”

The ad agency has also reached out to the members of the Gil Puyat family to express respect for former Senate President Gil Puyat’s legacy.
