THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed on Thursday that another Filipino died amid the war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
This brings the number of Filipino fatalities to four.
”I regret to inform the nation that we have received confirmation from the Israeli government of another Filipino casualty in Israel,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo said on X.
”Out of respect for the wishes of the family, we shall be withholding details on the identity of the victim. But we have assured the family of the government’s full support and assistance,” he added.
More than 1,400 people in Israel have died since the war began on October 7, with the majority gunned down by Hamas militants who crossed from Gaza and attacked border communities. Meanwhile, around 3,000 people have been killed in Israeli air strikes across the Gaza Strip.
In other developments, 16 overseas Filipino workers returned to the country on Wednesday after escaping the conflict.
The 16 OFWs in Israel were welcomed by government officials at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, according to the Department of Migrant Workers.
”The DMW, with various government agencies, will provide immediate assistance and other forms of support, including psycho-social counseling, stress debriefing, medical referral, and temporary accommodation, to the OFWs while awaiting transit to their respective provinces,” the department said in a statement.
More Filipinos in Israel are expected to arrive in the country in the coming days.
The Philippine government is also working on the evacuation of around 70 to 80 Filipinos trapped in the Gaza Strip.
