THE Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) listed 13 areas in the country as in danger due to the forecast heat index.
According to PAGASA’s two-day forecast, Dagupan City in Pangasinan will experience the highest heat index today at 45 degrees Celsius.
The complete areas in danger are:
- NAIA Pasay City, Metro Manila: 42ºC
- Laoag City, Ilocos Norte: 42ºC
- Dagupan City, Pangasinan: 45ºC
- Aparri, Cagayan: 43ºC
- Tuguegarao City, Cagayan: 42ºC
- ISU Echague, Isabela: 42ºC
- Clark Airport (DMIA), Pampanga: 42ºC
- Puerto Princesa City, Palawan: 44ºC
- Aborlan, Palawan: 42ºC
- Virac (Synop), Catanduanes: 42ºC
- Masbate City, Masbate: 42ºC
- Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur: 42ºC
- Cotabato City, Maguindanao: 42ºC
PAGASA had classified areas as in danger are those with heat index from 42 to 51 degrees Celsius.
The areas who carry a heat index of 27 to 32 degrees Celsius are under “Caution”; 33 to 41 degrees Celsius under “Extreme Caution”; and 52 degrees Celsius and above under “Extreme Danger”.
The heat index is the measure of the temperature that a person usually feels in contrast to the actual air temperature.
Meanwhile, PAGASA advised the public to limit the time spent outdoors; drink plenty of water;avoid tea, coffeee, soda and liquor; wear umbrellas, hats, and sleeved clothing outdoors; and schedule heavy-duty activities for the beginning or end of the day when it’s cooler so as to avoid being victims of heat stroke.
