Nadine Lustre looks back on childhood memories in her first vlog

by Izel Abanilla

ACTRESS and singer Nadine Lustre has uploaded her first vlog entry, where she reminisced about her colorful childhood that she said was full of memorable experiences that eventually shaped her into who she is today.

In her ten-minute vlog titled “My Name is Nadine,” the actress showed her followers clips of her young self who, just like any typical kid, was carefree and curious.

Nadine as a kid

Describing herself as “boyish,” Lustre shared that more than girly stuff, she had preferred toys and games for boys. She liked cars and played street games like patintero, hide-and-seek, tag, Chinese garter and Dr. Quack Quack. She loved computer games as well.

When you’re a kid, you’re just curious about everything”

At school, she was a pretty active kid, too.

“I never liked staying put in one spot, I’m always running around,” she said.

Like other children, she had an active imagination and even thought that her home was always haunted.

Nadine’s dreams

As she was growing up, the highly imaginative and inquisitive Lustre wanted to be many things.

She was into anime and dreamed of being an artist because of this, she recalled.

“I wanted to be a manga artist because I’m such a huge anime girl,” she said, adding that she learned how to draw from manga, or anime comic books.

She also wanted to be a voice actor because of anime, she added.

There was also a time when she wanted to pursue painting.

I had a phase when I wanted to be a painter, bought tons of canvas shoes and I was painting little monsters and all of them”

The first childhood experience she had closest to what she would do in the future was when she got her first digital camera that sparked her love for photography.

She later had a stint hosting a children’s show.

Love for music

Lustre is also into music, and she credits this to the influence of her family.

“I like to believe that I have good taste in music and it’s all thanks to my parents,” she said.

“It’s never quiet in our house because there’s always music playing. It would be playing from the TV, radio. I had a walkman so the music never stops,” she added.

Just like any typical ‘90s kid, she would drown herself in the songs of American pop sensation Britney Spears and dream that someday, she would  be doing the same thing.

I knew I loved performing even when I was a little girl and it was something that I’ve always wanted to do. But where I’m at now, it’s not something that I expected. I guess my parents saw a lot of potential in me so they encouraged me to go out there and kind of show myself”

Looking forward to the future

Like other celebrities, one of Lustre’s biggest frustrations is not finishing her studies. But she holds no regret in her life because she is happy living her dream.

She said she is also thankful for the “ups and downs” and for everyone she has met in the business.

“I’m still figuring a lot of things out. but I am liking where I’m at now and I’m happy with what I have. I can’t wait for the rest of my life to unfold,” she said.

I don’t know where this road is going to take me but one thing’s for sure, the girl on your screen right now is loving every minute of this”

Lustre now continues to be one of the most bankable stars of her generation. Last year, she experienced a major career highlight when she bagged the Best Actress award for the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival for her powerful performance in the horror flick “Deleter.”

She promised that the fans will see more of her, especially in movies in the years to come.
