Manila City bans firecrackers, alcohol during Black Nazarene feast

by Carl Santos

MANILA City Mayor Honey Lacuna has banned firecrackers and alcoholic beverages during the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

Lacuna’s directive was covered by separate executive orders issued on January 5.

The ban on sale and use of fireworks (January 8-9) covers the whole city of Manila, while the liquor ban (January 8-10) is limited to within the 500-meter radius of Quiapo Church.

Lacuna said she made the decision to ensure peace and order during the feast as the traslacion or the procession of the revered Black Nazarene image from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church returns after a three-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
